NASE Attends White House Economic Speech
The government today announced the creation
of 112,000 new jobs in June, and President
George W. Bush took that occasion to speak
to small business owners about the nation’s
economic security. Several Members of the
National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE)
attended the event, held in the East Room of
the White House.
“I know that when the entrepreneur feels
confident, when the small business owner
invests, it’s more likely people will be
able to find a job,” President Bush told the
gathered group of about 200 entrepreneurs
and small business association
representatives.
A non-partisan trade association, the NASE
supports several of President Bush’s small
business initiatives, including making the
accelerated reduction in individual income
tax rates permanent and increasing the
allowable amount for equipment expenses.
Both are included in the president’s 2003
stimulus plan, as well as the creation of
association health plans and health care tax
credits.
Without a Political Action Committee, the
NASE depends on the involvement of its
250,000 member businesses to gain access and
influence with policy makers. Through the
association’s online Legislative Action
Center, Members can easily and quickly send
letters, tell how legislation affects their
business, and become involved in the
advocacy process.
“I never thought I’d actually get an
‘invitation’ to attend an event in the White
House, but through the NASE it happened,”
said Chris Krupinski, a NASE Member from
Fairfax, Virginia, and owner of the graphic
design and fine arts firm ck art and design.
“The NASE is truly there to support the
self-employed. I appreciate the fact that
the NASE opens their doors and invites their
membership to really be a part of their
organization.”
