2002 Legislative Agenda
In 2002, the National Association for the Self-Employed will continue to lead the fight on Capitol Hill for legislation that is beneficial for small business.
The NASE employs a full-time legislative staff in Washington D.C. to closely monitor the progress of every single piece of legislation affecting small business and the self-employed.
Acting as the voice for our Members, the NASE will concentrate on these important issues:
- Advancing bipartisan proposals to save and strengthen Social Security without raising payroll taxes for small businesses and the self-employed
- Simplifying private pension plans while making them more financially attractive to small businesses
- Increasing equipment expensing for small businesses
- Cutting capital gains taxes
- Introducing health care legislation that gives small businesses the freedom to tailor health insurance policies to their needs
- Clarifying the tax definition of an independent contractor so small-business owners can easily understand who is an employee and who is an independent contractor
By far, the most powerful voice we have is yours. Although Congress is on recess until January 23, 2002, this is still a great time to make sure the voice of small business is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill. Write your elected officials today and express your views about issues affecting small business and the self-employed. Your letter will be waiting on their desks when they return to work.
The NASE makes it easy for you to get in touch with your legislators through the
Legislative Action Center. Simply enter your zip code and you will be taken to all the information needed to contact the elected officials for your hometown. Plus, you will find tips to help you communicate effectively with your legislators.
Call, write or e-mail your legislators today and tell them you want the passage of laws that are favorable to the nations small business
